head in the books

(no subject)

I read and tried to enjoy (but really didn't) Philip K. Dick's novel Ubik. The book describes some interesting things-- technology that allows communication between the living and the barely living cryogenically frozen -- and also a woman with powers of time travel who is employed to defeat or frustrate the powers of precogs, you know, those who see things before they happen. The level of fascination of these things is defeated by the total lack of plot pacing/structure and the style level zero. Impressive enough if it was written through some epileptic fit, but could no editor be found to look at it?

I'm cranky. I recommend instead a visit to the Outsider Art page on wikipedia.

I could spend weeks there.
